MyMedicare

MyMedicare is a new voluntary patient registration model.  It aims to formalise the relationship between patients, their general practice, general practitioner and primary care teams.  Further information can be found here and registration forms are available at reception.    

Shingles (herpes zoster) vaccine update

Shingles (also called herpes zoster) is the disease caused when the chickenpox virus reactivates. Shingles can cause severe pain that can last for months. Changes to the shingles vaccine available under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) came into effect from 1 November 2023. The shingles vaccine Shingrix has replaced Zostavax on the NIP.

Dr Seren Ovington, currently training to become a specialist GP at Hughes Family Practice, has been named 2021 GP Synergy GP Registrar of the Year for Murrumbidgee and ACT

I chose general practice because it involves my favourite elements of medicine – diagnostic challenges, holistic health and long-term patient relationships,” Dr Ovington said.“What I have enjoyed most about GP training has been getting to know my patients and the great variety in the work.  Looking after babies and the elderly, managing emergency presentations and chronic diseases and everything in between keeps my days very interesting!  I feel very lucky to have won this award and am grateful for my supervisors, GP colleagues and study buddies for all the support they have given me during my GP training.
